Do tanning gummies work? An honest answer

An honest answer

Do tanning gummies work?
Not on their own.

The direct answer: a tanning gummy does not give you a tan. A tan is colour your skin makes in response to UV light, on a sunbed or in the sun, and nothing you swallow does that job instead. Delux Tanning Gummies are a food supplement made to sit alongside a tanning routine. They are not a tan in a pill, and we will not sell them as one. If you want colour, you need UV and a product that works with it, which is what a tanning accelerator cream is for.

1job: sit alongside a routine, never replace it
A gummy cannot tan you. Colour comes from UV. No supplement replaces that, and no supplement is a substitute for it.
A gummy is not sun protection. It has no SPF. Outdoors, sunscreen still goes on.
Stack it, do not swap it. If you take them, take them alongside a cream and your usual sessions. Never instead.

Part one

Do tanning gummies work without the sun or a sunbed?

No. This is the question most people are really asking, so it gets the plainest answer on the page. Your skin makes a tan when UV reaches it. Without UV there is no tan, whatever you have eaten that morning.

Yes, ours are called Tanning Gummies. That is the phrase people search for, and they are made for people who tan. It is not a promise that the gummy does the tanning. The front of the pouch says Daily Glow, not "instant colour", and that is deliberate.

If a gummy could tan you without UV, nobody would own a sunbed. Read the claim again before you buy anything that says otherwise.

Part two

What is actually in Delux Tanning Gummies?

Here is what the product lists, and nothing added. We have not written what each ingredient does, because that is exactly where this category tends to overreach.

On the label What it is
Astaxanthin A red-orange carotenoid pigment
Lycopene The red carotenoid pigment found in tomatoes
Beta-carotene The orange carotenoid pigment found in carrots
Vitamins A, B3, C and D3 Listed vitamins
Zinc A listed mineral
Flavour Sour watermelon

The pouch holds 60 gummies. The recommended amount is two a day, which makes a pouch 30 days. The exact amount of each ingredient per serving is printed on the pouch, so check the label rather than a screenshot of it.

The gummies full guide goes through the ingredients one by one if you want the long version.

Part three

How should you think about a tanning gummy?

As a supplement that sits alongside a routine. Not as the routine.

A tanning routine has a few parts that each do something different. UV is what makes colour. A tanning accelerator cream or jelly goes on before each session and is the part made to work with that UV. Sunscreen goes on outdoors. A gummy, if you choose to take one, is a daily supplement that sits next to all of that. It does not stand in for any of it.

Two different jobs. The gummy is a supplement. The cream is what goes on before UV.

Part four

How many tanning gummies should you take a day?

Two a day, which is what the label says. Do not take more than the label says. Taking extra will not make anything happen faster, and the daily amount is on the pouch for a reason.

Can you take tanning gummies with a tanning cream?

They are made to be used that way. One goes on your skin before a session, the other is a supplement you take once a day. Neither replaces the other. If you are building a routine from nothing, start with the cream, because that is the part used with UV. Add gummies afterwards only if you want them.

Part five

Who shouldn't take tanning gummies?

Read the label before you start, every time. Ours says the gummies are not suitable for anyone pregnant or nursing, or for anyone under 18. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take any medication or other supplements, speak to a pharmacist or your GP before taking them.

Keep them out of reach of children. They taste like sweets, which is the point of a gummy and also the reason that matters.

What we won't claim

  • 1
That a gummy will tan youIt will not, on its own, without UV.
  • 2
That a gummy speeds up or boosts a tanWe are not going to promise a result we cannot point to.
  • 3
That a gummy protects your skinIt has no SPF and is not a substitute for sunscreen.
  • 4
Health or vitamin claimsWe list what is in it. We do not tell you what it will do for your body.
  • 5
That you can skip the cream or the sessionsA gummy sits alongside a routine. It is never the whole routine.

That is a shorter list of promises than most gummies come with. We are comfortable with that.

Part six

So what actually works with UV?

A tanning accelerator, applied before you tan. Ours are bronzer-free and DHA-free, so there is no painted-on colour: they are made to be used with UV, on a sunbed or outdoors.

Island Coconut, £30. Our Next-Gen cream. Lightweight, fast absorbing, with a subtle coconut scent.
Electric Melon, £30. The same Next-Gen formula, in a watermelon ice scent.
Sun Sauce, £28. Our tanning jelly, for anyone who wants something lighter than a cream.

Not sure which one? Cream or jelly covers the choice, and what a tanning accelerator actually is explains the category from the start.
