Vanilla Paradise: The Full Guide to Every Ingredient

Vanilla Paradise: The Full Guide to Every Ingredient - Delux Tanners
The full product guide

Vanilla Paradise.
Every ingredient, and why.

Our reputation was built on one thing: transparency about what is in the tube. Every ingredient in a Delux cream has a job, and if it cannot do that job at the level we include it, it is not included. No trace-amount actives put there to be mentioned on the box, no fillers, and nothing on the website that is not printed on the label. Here is the whole list for Vanilla Paradise, the newest scent on our Next-Gen formula, with the reason each ingredient is there.

26ingredients on the label, every one explained below
5melanin-supporting actives
Oct 26launched, on the Next-Gen formula from day one
0DHA, bronzer, colourant or tint
Same formula as Island Coconut and Electric Melon. Vanilla Paradise is the warm, soft scent on the Next-Gen base. The ingredient list is identical. Only the fragrance changes.
Every active above the fragrance line. Ingredients are listed in order of amount. Read the order and you know what the cream really is.
No colour in the tube. Vanilla Paradise helps your skin respond to UV. Nothing in it tints.
A 10p-sized amount per area. Thin, even, absorbed. That is the whole application.

Part one

Why the Next-Gen creams share one formula

Plenty of ranges quietly change the formula between scents. The flagship gets the actives, the flavours get a lighter version and the same claims. We think that is a poor deal for the person who simply prefers vanilla, so we do the opposite. The Next-Gen base was finished once, properly, and every scent sits on it unchanged. Vanilla Paradise is the same cream as Island Coconut and Electric Melon, ingredient for ingredient, in the same order. If you have read either of those guides, this list will look very familiar. That is the point.

Pick Vanilla Paradise because you like how it smells. Not because you are hoping it does something the others do not. It does everything they do.

Part two

The base: the first six

What the cream is made of before any active goes in. Vanilla Paradise is a smooth white cream that spreads easily and sinks in without residue, and that is these six at work.

Ingredient 1Aqua (water)First
A water-based cream that starts with water. Worth saying, because water-based is what keeps it light on the skin and kind to sunbed acrylics.
Ingredient 2Aloe barbadensis leaf juiceSecond
Hydrating and soothing, and second on the list rather than last. Aloe is why the cream feels fresh going on and comfortable after a session.
Ingredient 3Shea butterThird
Softens skin and slows water loss. Conditioned skin holds colour better than dry skin, which sheds it. Shea is a big part of why the base doubles as a body cream.
Ingredient 4Coconut oilFourth
A light emollient held in a water-based emulsion, so you get the slip without the grease. No oily film on the acrylic, nothing sitting under your sunscreen. It does not make the cream smell of coconut; the vanilla is the scent.
Ingredient 5GlycerinFifth
The humectant. Draws water into the top layer of skin and helps keep it there between sessions.
Ingredient 6Caprylic/capric triglycerideSixth
Coconut-derived and lighter than the oil. Spreads the cream evenly and sinks in. It does the job a silicone does in many sunbed creams, without sitting on the surface afterwards.

Part three

The five actives

Your skin makes melanin in a chain: raw material, signal, mineral, reinforcement, transfer. Vanilla Paradise has one ingredient for each link. All five sit above the fragrance, and none is there just to be on the box.

Raw materialN-Acetyl-L-TyrosineTop ten
The amino acid skin converts into melanin, in the stable acetylated form that holds up in a water-based cream. Top ten on the list. On many tubes tyrosine sits after the fragrance, which tells you how much is there.
SignalMelanoBronzeAuthorised complex
A complex made by Solabia, combining monk's pepper (Vitex agnus-castus) fruit extract with acetyl tyrosine, used in our creams under authorisation from its maker. It supports the signalling that switches pigment production on when UV arrives, for a sooner, more even response. It needs light to work; it is not a self-tan. On the label it appears under its INCI name, Vitex Agnus Castus Extract.
MineralCopper gluconateMid list
Tyrosinase, the enzyme that converts tyrosine into pigment, is copper-dependent. Copper gluconate makes copper available in a gentle form. A small amount by design; it is a cofactor, not a filler.
ReinforcementAcetyl hexapeptide-1Mid list
A peptide that mimics the body's own start-production messenger, backing up the signal MelanoBronze primes. One of the most expensive classes of ingredient in the tube, and one you rarely see on a sunbed shelf. The full story is in our acetyl hexapeptide-1 guide.
TransferNiacinamideTop ten
Vitamin B3, top ten. Supports the skin barrier and is involved in moving melanin from the cells that make it to the ones you see. Half the tanning process happens after the pigment is made; this is for that half.

Part four

Skin support: the other nine

UV is hard work for skin. These nine are the skincare half of Vanilla Paradise and the reason it feels like a body cream rather than a sunbed product.

Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5): calms, conditions, eases that tight feeling after a session.
Squalane: a skin-identical light oil for the barrier, absorbs with no residue.
Tocopherol (vitamin E): an antioxidant that helps against UV-generated free radicals and keeps the plant oils fresh.
Ascorbyl glucoside (stable vitamin C): a form of vitamin C that lasts in a cream, for antioxidant support and a more even-looking tone.
Beta-glucan: deeply hydrating and one of the gentlest soothers in skincare.
Ceramide NP: helps replace the mortar between skin cells that UV depletes, so the barrier and the colour both hold.
Ectoin: helps skin cells cope with UV and heat stress. Rare in tanning creams, deliberate in ours.
Liquorice root extract: soothing and evening, so colour builds uniformly.
Caffeine: mild antioxidant and skin-firming support, sitting low among the actives on purpose. It is there for the skin, not for a tingle.

Part five

The last six

Parfum (fragrance), which is the vanilla, below every active. Carbomer, the thickener that gives the cream its body. Phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin, the preservative system any water-based cream needs to stay fresh once opened. Citric acid and sodium hydroxide, used in tiny amounts to set the pH at skin's own slightly acidic level. That is everything. Nothing on this page that is not on the tube, and nothing on the tube that is not on this page.

Part six

What to expect, week by week

Sessions one and two: priming. The base is conditioning the skin and the actives are getting to work. Do not expect much to see yet.
Sessions two to three: most people notice the first real difference here, warmer and deeper than the same session would have given with nothing on.
Weeks two to three: with regular sessions, a proper even base. Drop to maintenance and keep moisturising.
After: the shea, ceramide and squalane in the base help the colour hold. A daily moisturiser does the rest.

The routine itself: exfoliate the day before, clean dry skin, then a 10p-sized amount per area, spread thin and even until it disappears. The actives absorb into the top layer of skin in minutes, so more just sits on the surface and ends up on the bed. On a sunbed, apply just before your session and follow the salon's times. Outdoors, apply it first, let it absorb, then a separate broad spectrum sunscreen over the top, reapplied as the sunscreen directs. The full day-by-day is in your first two weeks with Delux.

Part seven

Versus the shelf

Versus a sweet-scented sunbed cream. Many lead with the smell and run one active under a lot of fragrance. Vanilla Paradise runs five actives above it, on a skincare base.
Versus a bronzer lotion. Instant colour from DHA or a tint that washes off, can streak and goes orange when over-applied. Vanilla Paradise gives you nothing on day one and your own colour as the sessions build.
Versus a tanning oil. Surface intensity, salon bans, nothing for the skin. Vanilla Paradise is water-based and welcome on salon beds.
Versus Island Coconut and Electric Melon. Identical formula. Choose the scent you want to smell of for the next few weeks.
Versus Tropic Like It's Hot. A different formula: a tingle accelerator for experienced tanners, with a warming tingle complex. If you want no tingle, or you are new to accelerators, Vanilla Paradise is the one.

What Vanilla Paradise is not

Not instant, because there is no colour in it. Not a sunscreen; it contains no SPF, so wear one over it outdoors. Not a tingle. And not a self-tan: every active here needs UV. If you want colour with no sun or sunbed, that is a different product and we do not make one.

Quick answers

Frequently asked

Is Vanilla Paradise different from Island Coconut and Electric Melon?
Only the scent. The formula, base and five-part melanin stack are identical across the Next-Gen creams.
What does Vanilla Paradise smell like?
Warm, soft vanilla. Comforting rather than sugary, and it settles softly after application.
Does Vanilla Paradise contain bronzer or DHA?
No. No colourant of any kind. The colour you build is your own.
Does it tingle?
No. There is no tingle agent in Vanilla Paradise. If you want a tingle, that is Tropic Like It's Hot, which is designed for experienced tanners.
Can I use it on a sunbed and in the sun?
Both. Water-based and kind to acrylics indoors; outdoors, wear a separate broad spectrum sunscreen over it because it contains no SPF.
How much should I apply?
A 10p-sized amount per area, spread thin and even. More does not work better; it sits on the surface. A 200ml tube used this way lasts weeks of regular sessions.
How quickly does it work?
Most people notice a difference within two to three sessions and a proper base within two to three weeks of regular use.
