If you have seen a translucent golden jelly doing the rounds and wondered what it actually is, this is the full explainer: what tanning jelly is, how it differs from the cream and the oil you already know, and why we built ours the way we did.

Part one

What a tanning jelly is

A tanning jelly is a tan accelerator in a gel texture: translucent, golden, silky, and quick to sink in. It exists for people who love the glossy, slicked look and easy glide of an oil but want none of its baggage, and for anyone who finds a rich cream too heavy in warm weather. Like every Delux accelerator, it works with your own UV exposure on sunbeds or in the sun to support deeper, natural-looking colour. There is no DHA and no bronzer, so nothing streaks and nothing turns orange.

What is actually in ours

Sun Sauce is around seventy percent water, which makes it feather-light and, crucially, kind to sunbed acrylics, unlike the oils that salons keep off their beds. Inside the jelly: niacinamide and acetyl tyrosine supporting your skin's natural melanin process, with panthenol, betaine, aloe, allantoin, grape extract, vitamin E and a tripeptide keeping your skin comfortable, hydrated and smooth while you build colour.

The colour side. Acetyl tyrosine is the stable form of the amino acid your skin turns into melanin; niacinamide supports the barrier and helps colour develop evenly. Both sit high in the formula, not at the bottom of the list.
Panthenol, betaine, aloe, allantoin
The comfort side. Hydration and soothing, so the jelly feels cooling on a lounger rather than tight after a session.
Grape extract, vitamin E, tripeptide
Antioxidant support and conditioning, keeping the skin smooth while the colour builds week on week.
The glide of an oil, the brains of an accelerator, and a base your salon will not side-eye.

Jelly, cream or oil?

Honest guide: pick the jelly if you want lightweight, fast-absorbing and lounger-glossy. Pick a cream if you want richer conditioning as part of the deal, our cream versus jelly guide settles that one. And skip the oil entirely, because the comparison is not close: the jelly gives you the look and the glide with actives underneath, and it will not get you turned away at the salon.

Part four

How to use it

Apply to clean, dry skin before your sunbed session or sun exposure, smooth it evenly, and reapply after swimming or towelling off outdoors. It contains no SPF, so wear a separate sunscreen in the sun, follow your salon's guidance indoors, and build your colour gradually. Most customers see the difference within two to three sessions.
