Every Tan Starts As Tyrosine

Advertorial. This article is an advert from Delux Tanners.

The science behind your tan

Every tan starts as tyrosine.

Why more serious tanners are moving away from oils and bronzers, and what they are using instead.

Here is something most tanning products will not tell you: the colour is not in the bottle. Every shade you have ever built, on a sunbed in January or on a beach in August, was made by your own skin.

That colour is melanin. And melanin does not appear from nowhere. Your skin builds it, step by step, from one amino acid. That amino acid is tyrosine.

Once you understand that, the way you shop for an accelerator changes completely.

So why do most accelerators ignore it?

Look at the back of the average tanning accelerator and you will usually find three things: oils, a bronzer, or a self-tan agent called DHA. All three work on the surface of your skin.

  • OilsMake skin shine under the lamps. Slide off onto the bed and leave you greasy.
  • BronzerA tint that sits on top. Transfers onto sheets and washes off in the shower.
  • DHAStains the top layer of skin. The source of streaks, patches and orange.

Surface products can make you look darker for a day. None of them feed the process that builds colour that is actually yours.

So we built a jelly around the source.

Why a jelly?

Oils sit on top of your skin. A water-based jelly sinks straight in. Sun Sauce is featherlight, absorbs fast and leaves nothing behind on the bed, so you can apply it and get straight into your session.

How tanners use it

  1. Apply a thin, even layer to clean, dry skin before your session. Your pack includes a QR code to the full usage guide.
  2. Tan as normal on the sunbed or outdoors, following your salon's session guidance.
  3. Repeat every session. Colour builds on itself when you are consistent.

Love this stuff. Put on way too much first time of using it but when I got the hang of it, a little goes a long way. Gives you a lovely colour. My 2nd order now.

Questions

Does it contain bronzer or DHA?

No. The colour you build is your own tan, not a tint.

What is acetyl tyrosine?

A form of tyrosine, the amino acid your skin uses to make melanin. Sun Sauce carries a 4% acetyl tyrosine complex.

Can I use it outdoors?

Yes. It is made for both sunbed and outdoor tanning.

Will it mark the bed or my clothes?

It is a water-based jelly with no bronzer, so there is nothing to transfer once absorbed.

This is an advertorial from Delux Tanners. Sun Sauce does not contain SPF. Always follow your salon's session guidance, build colour gradually and never allow your skin to burn.
