How Many Sunbed Sessions Does It Take to Get a Tan?
How many sunbed sessions
does it take to get a tan?
The question everyone asks at the desk and nobody quite answers. Here is the honest version, with the numbers that apply to most people and the four things that move them.
Part one
The short answer
For most people, the first noticeable change arrives after three to five sessions spaced across a week or two. A base you would call a tan, even and holding, takes two to three weeks of regular sessions. That is the range for someone with skin that tans reasonably easily, following their salon's times. Fairer skin sits at the slower end and needs to build up more carefully. Skin that tans easily sits at the faster end. Nobody gets a base in one visit, and anyone who tries usually gets a burn instead.

Part three
A realistic plan
Week one: two or three short sessions at your salon's starter length, accelerator on clean dry skin before each one, moisturiser after. Do not expect much yet; this is the priming week. Week two: same rhythm, session length stepped up only if your salon says so. This is where most people see it. Week three: the base is there. Drop to maintenance, one or two sessions a week, and keep moisturising so it holds. Our first two weeks guide walks through exactly what to expect day by day.
Once a fortnight, nothing on
6+Sessions before you see much, because each one is starting over.
Three a week, accelerator on
2-3Sessions before it shows. A base inside three weeks.
Part four
Speeding it up, safely
You cannot make your skin produce melanin faster than it can, but you can stop wasting sessions. Prep properly, use a water-based accelerator before every visit, keep your sessions regular rather than long, moisturise daily, and never tan over a burn. That is the whole method, and it is faster than the shortcut every time because nothing is lost to peeling. The full routine is in how to tan faster on sunbeds.

An accelerator before every session is the one variable you fully control. Two to three sessions from now, you will see why.
